Balance a quiz with the assessment blueprint
See how scored quiz points split across objectives and framework levels, set optional targets, and read warnings in Review.
The assessment blueprint helps you balance a scored quiz. It counts only scored quiz questions linked to at least one objective. Practice (knowledge check) questions are not included. A question linked to more than one objective splits its points evenly among them; a 4-point question linked to two objectives gives each objective 2 points.
What it shows
Section titled “What it shows”In Learning Design → Alignment, the Assessment blueprint panel sits between the coverage matrix and the gap list.
The subtitle summarizes linked scored points and your targets, for example 10 scored points · targets 90%. When nothing is linked yet, it reads No scored questions linked yet.
Scored questions linked to no objective, or only to retired objectives, are not counted in the totals. The panel says how many questions and points that is. Only each question’s own links count: a scored question doesn’t take its quiz page’s objectives, so questions you haven’t linked show up here rather than splitting their points across every objective on the page. Use Link to page objectives on the quiz page’s row in the coverage matrix to link them in one step, then adjust each question. See Connect objectives to evidence. Retired objectives don’t appear in the table, and their targets don’t show, but a saved target on a retired objective still counts toward the 100% limit.
On a wide screen, the panel shows a table. On phones, each objective appears as one row with Actual, Target, and Difference, plus a By level line.
Read the table
Section titled “Read the table”Columns:
- Objective — each course objective, then All objectives on the last row.
- One column per level of the course’s first framework (for example Bloom’s Remember through Create). When a linked question has no level in that framework, its points appear under Level not set.
- Actual — the share of linked scored points, as a percent.
- Target — an optional percent you set (below).
- Difference — On target, or how many points over or under the target, with an icon.
Each level cell shows points and how many questions contribute. The All objectives row shows the percent of points at each level and the sum of your targets.
Example: three scored questions — 2 points on objective 1 at Apply, 3 points on objective 2 at Analyze, and 5 points on objective 1 at Analyze. Objective 1 carries 7 of 10 points (Actual 70%); objective 2 carries 3 (Actual 30%). By level, Analyze is 80% and Apply is 20%.
Set each question’s level in Goals & objectives under Assessed by, or see Classify objectives with framework levels.
Set targets
Section titled “Set targets”Type a percent from 0 to 100 in Target for an objective, then press Enter or leave the field. Leave Target empty to remove that objective’s target.
Targets across objectives can total at most 100%. If they would add up to more, the panel shows Targets would add up to …%. Keep the total at 100% or less. and saves nothing. Undo a saved target with Ctrl/Cmd+Z.
Removing an objective also removes its target.
In Review
Section titled “In Review”When an objective’s Actual share is more than 10 percentage points away from its Target, Difference is flagged and Review in the editor toolbar lists a warning under Alignment, for example: “Objective 1 carries 70% of scored points; its target is 50% (20 points over). Adjust question points or the target.”
These warnings never block sharing. In Review, each one shows Why this matters with a Learn more link to this section. Adjust question points, links, levels, or targets until the blueprint matches what you want learners to be checked on.
