Save and recover your work
Recognize pending saves, retry failures, and reconcile conflicts.
If a save fails, keep the editor open while you check the message and recovery options. Work that appears on the canvas may still be waiting to save.
Save states
Section titled “Save states”Edits appear in the editor first and autosave after a short delay. Check the save indicator before closing the editor or starting a task that needs saved content.
The save indicator shows Saved, Unsaved changes, Saving…, Save failed, or Changed elsewhere. To save with the keyboard, press Command+S on Mac or Control+S elsewhere.
A failed save
Section titled “A failed save”Keep the editor open. Your current draft remains in the editor, but it isn’t a confirmed server save.
If connectivity caused the failure, choose Retry when the connection returns. A retry sends the same pending change with the same idempotency key, so it won’t apply twice. If the message identifies another cause, use that information before retrying.
You can also choose Reload saved copy to replace your pending draft with the latest confirmed version. Before doing so, preserve any changes that the text recovery area cannot retain, as described below.
A version conflict
Section titled “A version conflict”Another tab or integration may have saved a newer version. The editor stops your save rather than overwriting that work.
Choose Reapply my edits to try your pending changes on the latest version. This works only if the same content hasn’t changed elsewhere. If it can’t reapply them, use Load latest (keep my text to copy) and copy the recovered text into the places where it belongs.
The recovery area can retain plain text from pending rich-text document updates and page-title edits. It is not a full draft backup: new blocks, other fields, media, layout, and formatting are not preserved there. Copy or record those changes before loading the latest version. Recovery does not automatically merge two drafts. Review the reconciled content and confirm that it saves.
Undo and restore
Section titled “Undo and restore”Use Undo/Redo for recent edits. Use Versions to inspect a saved checkpoint or historical state before restoring it.
Browser-local recovery doesn’t replace a confirmed server save. Check the save indicator after recovering your work.
